Spatial distribution of therapeutic communities

Synthesis of the Survey of Therapeutic Communities in Brazil

Abstract

Since 2011, the Federal Government, through the National Secretariat for Drug Policy (SENAD), funds vacancies in Therapeutic Communities (CTs) for people with substance use and substance use disorders (SUDs). In 2014, the Secretariat invited IPEA to carry out a research on these organizations, with the goal to gathering information to improve the monitoring and evaluation of this policy. The research effort sought to gather a set of quantitative and qualitative data about TC practices, as well as their physical and material reception conditions; its workers and leaders; and, to a small extent, their welcoming practices. The quantitative research consists of a survey with a national sample of 500 units, extracted from a cadastre with almost 2,000 CTs.
